Inside the tree it creates another plant hormone- abscisic acid. Abscisic acid cuts off the flowers and the fruit. The flowers will never become a fruit.

There are a couple of products available for nuisance fruit control: Florel (ethephone) and NAA (naphthalene acid).  For the best results you should hire a licensed pesticide applicator in the state of Colorado. They will know the right timing of application, make proper mix and have specialized equipment to obtain good coverage. Spraying to eliminate nuisance fruit development should be done annually.
